LEAGUE NEWS

The Piqua Youth Football Association offers Flag Football to 1st and 2nd Graders.

When:  Saturday Mornings September through October (11 AM-12:30 PM)

Where:  Pitsenbarger Park

Teams:  Six Teams of 1st and 2nd Graders

Offensive Positions:  5 Linemen, 1 Quarterback, 2 Running Backs

Defensive Positions:  4 Linemen, 3 Linebackers, 1 Safety

Rules...

  • 4 Series of 10 Offensive Plays
  • The ball can only be advanced by handing off to the running back or a quarterback keeper.  No pass plays.  Plays must come from the PYFA playbook.
  • There will be no score.  Maximum of 3 scores in 1 series.  If this occurs the remainder of the 10 play series will be void.
  • The offense will start at the 40 Yard Line.
  • All players must play 3 Quarters per game.
  • All players must start at least 3 games during the season.
  • One sixty second timeout per quarter can be called by player or coach.
  • Player is marked down once flag has been fully removed from belt.  The defensive player must stop and hold the flag up in the air in order to spot the ball.
  • Must have 5 players on the line of scrimmage at all times.
  • Defense can have only four rushers.  Four players must play in the defensive backfield (3 Linebackers inside the tackles and 1 Safety).
  • 2 Subs from other teams are allowed.  All subs must report at the beginning of the game.  They are not allowed to advance the ball and cannot rush on defense.  No more than 10 players allowed with subs.
  • All teams must use the PYFA playbook.
  • Minimum of 7 players needed or team will forfeit the game.
  • No downfield blocking.
  • Legal blocking is the act of the blocker putting his/her hands on the chest of the defensive player and pushing them backwards while remaining on their feet at all times.
  • One coach from each team will be on the field at all times.  Coaches must move towards the sideline before the act of play.
  • The act of intentionally tackling a player to get their flag will result in a 10 yard penalty from the spot of the tackle.
  • The act of flag guarding or stiff arming the defensive player will result in the ball being marked down at the spot of the foul.  If it is determined to be intentional the offense will lose 1 play from that series or if it is the tenth play they will only get nine plays the next series.
  • All fumbles are dead the ball will be spotted where the fumble took place if it was in the backfield the ball will be spotted where it was the previous play.
  • All shirts must be tucked in at all times.  Flags must be kept at each side and one in the back.
  • The offensive player advancing the football cannot leave his/her feet to advance the football (diving, jumping, etc.).  Result of violation will be the player being marked down at the spot.
  • All players must wear a colored mouthpiece.
  • Coaches will be the officials.  This is a learning experience for the kids.  Coaches will call your own fouls, this way you can see what your kids are doing and what they need to learn.
  • Linebackers must line up 3 yards behind the linemen.

PYFA Monthly Meeting...

The next PYFA Monthly Meeting will be held on Sunday, October 18th after the final game of the regular season to go over playoff seeds and schedules.  This meeting will be held at the concession stand and is not open to the public.  All coaches are required to attend or have a team rep available.
